How Mnay People Choose Beef at a Reception

Do Most Prefer Beef or Fish

We're having a plated dinner and trying to narrow down on menu selections. We plan to have two main entree selections and a vegetarian option for anyone who needs it. We've pretty much decided to go with a chicken entree as one option. For the second, we're torn between a beef option or a fish option. Choices for beef would be filet, ny strip, or prime rib and choices for seafood are norwegian salmon w/ asian orange ginger sauce or grilled salmon wrapped in parchment w/julienned vegetables.

If you're one of those that would select something else besides chicken or vegetarian, would you prefer a beef entree or seafood (salmon)?

EDITED: To correct typo.

I should have also mentioned we have the option to do a duet plate of

DUO OPTION

Sliced beef tenderloin, roasted shallot & mushroom, rich marsala wine sauce and

pinwheels of chicken florentine.

Should we just do this and call it a day? No second entree option which would mean no need to select an entree on the RSVP.

I would prefer salmon, but I don't think that's true for a lot of people.

As much as I love salmon I would say go with steak or prime rib! Most people would like that better, I would think. Not an expert though, just my opinion Smiley smile

Personally, I would prefer beef, but DH would prefer salmon. I think it's going to be a mixed bag, but it looks like plenty of options either way you go.

At most of the weddings we catered, we'd do a beef and a non beef (fish or chicken). Usually, 75% of the guests would choose beef. People eat chicken every day.....

Do the filet (easier to cook and hold, easier to eat and a better sized serving after a cocktail hour) and fish

I don't mind salmon, depending on the way it's prepared, but I know FH hates salmon and will very rarely eat it. I would go with a beef option because I think it will be more popular. My personal vote would be for prime rib

I always order the beef or the fish. Definitely fish if the place will not cook my beef to my preferred temp. Other than that, it's a game time decision for me. I feel like the heavier the cocktail hour, the more I am inclined to order fish. Also, in my experience, prime rib seems to be polarizing as a beef option: people LOVE prime rib or do not eat it all.

I know you were looking for preferences, but I think it's a know your crowd and rest of your menu situation, as well. Does the chicken come with mushrooms and so would the beef? Then I would lean towards fish. Is the chicken Asian-inspired? I wouldn't go with the ginger salmon.

Rambling aside, I do not think you can go too wrong here. There's people who don't eat red meat, there's people who don't eat seafood, and people who crave them both.

I love salmon but I would choose beef because sometimes fish makes me sick. So I always go with the safer choice

I love salmon and could eat it everyday but I would do beef for sure. Filet or NY Strip sound great.

I'd pick salmon, but if it was any other fish, I'd probably go with the beef (I know, I'm difficult).

Cooked salmon makes me nauseated (a pity, because I love the taste) but as long as I had another option I'd be fine.

Salmon with orange ginger sauce sounds amazing (thank you for the dinner idea!), but at a wedding I'd probably feel celebratory and indulge in a nice filet!

I know more people who don't like any type of fish vs those who don't eat beef (hardly any).

I would choose beef over fish 100% of the time. If you want the fish I'd replace the chicken and do beef or fish. 120 out of 187 of our guests chose the beef option over chicken or vegetarian.

I'm vegetarian, so only speaking on what I observe but I think more people would be anti-fish then anti beef. In other words while the number of people who would pick one or the other is probably about equal I think more people would be fine with beef then would be fine with steak.

Since most fish (including salmon) makes me sick, I would go with beef.
